EPISODE 18 AND 20 OF THE AFTER THE STORK PODCAST
One of the most commonly overlooked aspects of sleep when it comes to sleep training is a baby's schedule.
The first thought when trying to improve a child's sleep is which sleep training method to use. But, successful sleep training is much more than just figuring out how you will or will not respond to your child at a time for sleep.
It has to do with two systems that regulate and drive sleep. And those are the internal timing systems and the homeostatic control mechanism. Or as you might better know them, circadian rhythms and sleep pressure.
Because I am working to keep episodes of the After the Stork Podcast in bite size chunks, I have decided to break this one into two parts.
EPISODE 18: PART 1, CIRCADIAN RHYTHMS
In this episode, part one, you can expect the following:
quick review of what healthy sleep means or, as I like to call it, "CATRing to your child's age".
quick review of the acronym ESRA+, pronounced ez-ruh-plus. This is a term to help you remember the five main areas to consider when evaluating your child's sleep and creating an effective sleep plan.
description of the five circadian rhythms that contribute to sleep development.
list of the five major influencers on the circadian rhythms.
EPISODE 20: PART 2, SLEEP PRESSURE AND HOW THE TWO SYSTEMS INDIRECTLY IMPACT SLEEP TOGETHER
In this episode, which will be released Thursday, November 18, you can expect the following:
to learn about the homeostatic control mechanism.
to understand how the two systems indirectly work together to affect sleep. This is when most people will really have their ah-ha moment to better understand why the timing of sleep is so important! Especially for napping children.
Is your child struggling with sleep and you are wondering if and how you can improve it? Join me live on November 27th at 10 EST on Zoom for my FREE training titled The 3 Key Factors for Successful Sleep Training.
